LEGAL HOLIDAYS:
Traditionally, Town Council has canceled regular meetings that fall on legal holidays. The Resolution attached to this staff report proposes that meetings falling directly on a legal holiday will be canceled, leaving on the calendar those meetings that fall near, but not on, a legal holiday.
For example, the Tuesday, November 8, 2022 meeting will be canceled because it falls on Election Day, which is a legal holiday.
For planning purposes, Council is asked to provide guidance regarding whether the Tuesday, November 22, 2022 meeting will be canceled, as it falls two days prior to the Thanksgiving holiday, as well as the Tuesday, December 27, 2022 meeting, as it falls two days after the holiday and between Christmas and New Year’s.
Canceling the November 22 meeting would leave no Council meetings scheduled for the month of November unless Council schedules a special meeting.
AUGUST RECESS:
Traditionally, Town Council has canceled its meetings during the month of August. Any meeting, including committee meetings during the month of August, can be canceled at the discretion of Town Council, and such cancelations need not be described in the Resolution if Council would like to preserve flexibility. The proposed Resolution continues to provide an August recess for all committees, commissions, and boards. If this is acceptable, then the motion proposed below needs no change.
REGULAR MEETINGS/WORK SESSIONS:
The proposed resolution continues to hold regular meetings at the first Tuesday of the month and work sessions at the fourth Tuesday of the month. For planning purposes, Council is asked to provide guidance to the Town Clerk regarding whether they wish to continue with this format or change the second meeting of the month to a regular meeting.
